Bridges Across Borders Southeast Asia (BABSEA) is currently accepting applications for its 2010 Legal Studies Internship Program. Entering into its 7th year, the BABSEA Legal Studies Internship Program offers an opportunity to make a real contribution to assisting others in overcoming the hardships and legal inequity in Southeast Asia while being involved in a remarkable experience of living and working in the region.
The BABSEA 2010 Legal Studies Internship Program's proposed activities emphasize four main areas: community legal education research and curriculum development, community service, education and culture, and self reflection. During the 12 week experience, activities include a variety of community based legal education teachings, service projects with local and rural communities and many educational events and cultural experiences. The interns will be given the opportunity to work and interact with the BABSEA International Community Legal Education team as well as local lawyers, legal educators, community and governmental organizations from BABSEA's partner network in the Southeast Asia region.
The program is open to legal studies and non-legal studies students, graduates and professionals. Dates of the program may be flexible, depending upon the participant's schedule and availability.
To be considered for the program, applicants should submit the following: application form, current resume/curriculum vitae, statement of purpose, writing sample, 2 personal references, the liability and waiver form, proof of insurance, and a photocopy of the applicant's valid passport. Preference will be given to applicants who display a strong academic record, interest in human rights and community service, awareness of different cultures, ability work effectively in teams, to be flexible, open minded, a willingness to commit to the full 12 week program and to be connected and support the work BABSEA does during and after completion of the program.
The program costs are $2600 USD. There are a limited amount of partial program cost waivers which will be granted to applicants who demonstrate great financial need and a history of being involved in human rights/community service projects.

Optional Certification in Teaching Law and Human Rights Using English as a Foreign Language Program AvailableBeginning in May 2010 BABSEA will be offering an optional certification through the Chiang Mai University Language Institute in Teaching Law and Human Rights using English as a Foreign Languague will be offered to both BABSEA Legal Studies Interns and Volunteers interested in enrolling in this program and throughout the year. Additiional costs(discounted) will apply.
